Buns, booths, and buttery toast: Flappy’s does it right.

Between the crispy tenders, dreamy sauces, and diner charm, Flappy’s absolutely earned its stripes.

We don’t usually do a sequel, but for Flappy’s, we made an exception. The first time was a happy accident (we were actually heading somewhere else… sorry, other chicken place), and it turned out to be one of those golden finds you want to keep to yourself. This time, we came back on purpose, with high hopes and slightly nervous tastebuds. The verdict? Still cluckin’ brilliant.

We take our lemonade seriously. Like, very seriously. So when we say this one’s a winner, we mean it. After too many disappointing, watery, sugar-bomb letdowns (lookin’ at you, Papa Flock’s 👀), Flappy’s version was a total refresher. Freshly squeezed right at the counter (yep, we saw the machine working its magic) the result was the perfect balance: lemony but not lip-puckering, sweet but not syrupy, and totally real. So real, we didn’t even hesitate, give us the two-litre bottle, please and thank you. Worth every drop.

Now the buttered potato toast… wow! This bread was warm and super soft in the center. It was sweet and savoury at the same time with a nice buttery char on the outside. We ate this bread by itself and also used it to dip into the sauces and mop up the gravy… it was just perfect and worth coming back just for this. Honestly, if Flappy’s sold this by the loaf, we’d be loading up the boot.

This is a chicken joint, so you’d hope the chicken delivers, and oh, it did. We went half spicy, half original, and every tender lived up to its name: juicy and soft on the inside, with a crispy, golden crunch on the outside. The spicy ones had a slow, satisfying burn, not just heat for heat’s sake, but proper, flavour-packed fire. On a cold and rainy day, this was the kind of meal that warmed us from the inside out. Pure comfort. Perfect crunch.

Now let us just say, those tenders were already doing the heavy lifting, but the sauces? Absolute game-changers.

Here’s the unforgettable lineup:

🐔 Flappys Sauce – This one caught us off guard, in the best way. Smoky, with a tangy lemon-herb twist, it had layers. We kept dipping, partly out of curiosity… partly because it was oddly comforting. Unexpected MVP.

🐔 Hot Honey – Exactly what it says on the bottle: honey with heat. The sweet-spicy combo lit up the spices in the chicken and made each bite even more addictive. Like a flavour seesaw we didn’t want to get off.

🐔 Sticky Memphis BBQ – We’ve met a lot of BBQ sauces, but this one stood out from the crowd. Sweet, warm, spicy, and smoky in all the right ways. It didn’t just sit on the tongue, it hugged it.

Last time we skipped the sides (rookie mistake). This time, we went all in, and we’re so glad we did. We weren’t expecting much from the fries, but once again, Flappy’s overdelivered. Perfectly crisp crinkle-cut edges = flavour traps for the seasoning to settle into. Every bite had that golden crunch and savoury punch. Lesson learned: never skip the fries.

The coleslaw did not disappoint – it was as a coleslaw should be – creamy, tangy, zesty with a little kick of heat – it was just what you needed after all the fried food. Now for the mash and gravy… the mash we were a bit so so on… we aren’t really into the powdered mash stuff, but were we expecting that type of mash? Pretty much. Now… the gravy… this was hot, creamy and a perfect dipping accompaniment to the chips so it was a big tick from us.

We’ve got to hand it to Flappy’s, we love this place. It’s the full package: retro diner vibes, comfy booths, slick packaging, speedy friendly service, and food that hits the table hot and hits your taste buds harder. It gave us exactly what we came for, and even with our sky-high expectations after round one, it still delivered. Big thumbs up from us. Double dip approved.

Slurped, dipped, devoured. Until next time…
